What is Microblading?

Microblading / Eyebrow Embroidery / Eyebrow Feathering is a semi permanent method that lasts up to 2 years. We use a tool to make fine hair like strokes with pigment in the skin which gives the illusion of natural hair and a fuller more defined brow.

Who can benefit from this treatment?

If you have over plucked brows, gaps or scars where the hair has not grown back, hair loss, weak or light coloured hair, wanting a desired shape or fuller brows.

How long does it last?

Your Embroidery will last as long as it’s maintained. Untouched, the ink will last 1-3 years.

How often do I need a touch up?

Six weeks after your first session a touch up is necessary to define strokes and re-do areas that may have faded during initial healing. This first touch up is included in the price if performed within 3 months of initial service. Any touch ups after this are subject to fees.

Does it hurt?

There is some discomfort associated with the procedure. A topical anesthetic is used to numb the area.

Will it look natural?

Yes, cosmetic embroidery looks as if you have filled in your brows with pencil but a little softer and more muted. Immediately after the treatment the colour will appear stronger and darker for the first 7-14 days. After that, you can lose approximately 50-60% of complete colour during the healing process within 7-14 days.

Procedure and Aftercare

What should I do to prepare for my procedure?

  1. Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis one week before procedure.

  2. Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face.

  3. Do not have any type of facial 2 weeks prior to treatment.

  4. Do not work out/exercise the day of the procedure.

  5. Do not have botox 3 weeks prior.

  6. Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior. (natural blood thinners)

  7. Do not wax or tint your eyebrows 3 days before the procedure.

  8. Wash your hair, you will need to refrain from this for a few days after.

In order to avoid excessive bleeding and poor color deposit:

  1. Do not drink alcohol 24 - 48 hours before your appointment.

  2. Do not consume coffee before your procedure.

  3. Do not take an aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief. (this thins the blood -tylenol is ok)

  • Please note that you will be more sensitive during your menstrual cycle

  • You may fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can take into consideration the shape you desire.

  • If you show up for your appointment with a sunburn, you will need to reschedule. Skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

  • PLEASE READ: If you are generally sensitive to skincare or have many allergies, it is recommended that you have a patch test done 72 hours before your appointment to ensure no allergies to the products being used. This will be at the discretion of the client.

How long does it take?

The procedure takes approximately an hour and a half including numbing time. Please allow a solid two hour window for your appointment. We likely won’t need that much time, but this isn’t something we want to rush.

What’s the process like?

Microblading is a two step treatment, consisting of an initial procedure and then a touch up six to eight weeks after. After we take your before photo, we shape your eyebrows and decide together on the best shape and colour. Shortly after that, a topical anesthetic will be administered to ensure comfort. Once you’re numb, the custom blended pigment is deposited.
During healing, it’s normal to experience some pigment loss; this is why we have the touch up in place. The process is considered to be complete 4 weeks after the second touch up.

What  to expect after treatment?

  • Your eyebrows will appear darker and more intense for the first few days. They will gradually lighten during the complete healing process.

  • There is no downtime after the appointment, you may have some slight redness but this should subside within a few hours to a day depending on your skins sensitivity – you may go to work or continue your schedule as usual.

  • Please note that some pigment may rub off after the procedure so take precautions to protect good linens and towels.

AFTERCARE

  1. Use a fresh pillowcase

  2. Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of color

  3. No facials, botox, chemical treatments, exfoliation or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks

  4. Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week

  5. Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after procedure. Wear a hat when outdoors.

  6. Do not soak your face underwater in a bathtub or allow the shower to spray directly in your face for two weeks.

  7. Avoid getting any soaps, shampoos or other cleansers on the treated area until all the scabs/flakiness has fallen off as they can be detrimental to the bonding process that must take place for the pigment to stabilize in the dermis.

  8. Avoid heavy sweating and long hot showers for the first 10 days.

  9. Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days

  10. Avoid swimming, lakes, steam rooms, saunas and hot tubs for the first 10 days

  11. DO NOT apply make-up to the area for the first 2 weeks. Cosmetics of any kind may interfere with the healing and color of your eyebrows.

  12. No anti-aging products or facial products containing Alpha Hydroxyls (AHAs), Retin-A, Lactic or Glycolic Acids

  13. DO NOT apply any anti-acne products (e.g. Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, Proactiv, etc.) or lightening creams (skin bleaching creams) such as hydroquinone to the treated area while healing.

  14. DO NOT thread, wax, use hair removal products, bleach, tint or dye the area for one month following the procedure.

  15. DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Picking can cause scarring and premature loss of pigment.

  16. Do not touch the area as your hands contain a lot of bacteria and touching them could risk infection.

  17. DO NOT use Vaseline, Neosporin/petroleum based products or any other products that are not specifically recommended by your technician.

Remember, with the proper prep and aftercare routine you will have much better results with your microblading procedure.

Important note about showering:

Limit your showers to 5 minutes so you do not create too much steam. Keep your face/procedure out of the water while you wash your body, then, at the end of your shower, wash your hair. Your face should only be getting wet at the very last end of the shower.  Avoid excessive rinsing and hot water on the treated area.

How long is healing?

Healing time varies from individual to individual. Usually, it takes about a week to ten days for the epithelial crust to form and slough off. Your skin will be considered healed after that happens. Then, the pigment takes some time to settle into the skin. A good month should pass before we consider the process complete.

NOTE: It is normal for pigment to be attached to the scab or flakes as that is what has been sitting on top of the skin, it is also normal for the eyebrows to look patchy as they are healing.

ONCE HEALED:

  • Exposure to the sun over time can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment. Once completely healed, you may apply sunscreen on the treated area. Wear large sunglasses and a hat for further protection. Rinse and dry the area thoroughly when in contact with chlorine.

Microblading is not recommended for anyone who is:

  • Pregnant or nursing

  • Diabetic

  • Undergoing Chemotherapy (consult your doctor)

  • Viral Infections

  • Epilepsy

  • A pacemaker or heart problems

  • Had an organ transplant

HEALING - WHAT TO EXPECT

What is the healing process like for microblading

DAY 1

On Day 1, you're excited. You get to go into your artist’s studio with patchy uneven brows, or no brows at all and voila, you come out with legitimate hair strokes that you want to show off to the world, literal #browgoals. They look textured, little bit red, but it’s a world of a difference, you feel like a changed person. Your brows are bold in color. If you aren’t used to filling them in a lot, they will look slightly more dramatic in appearance than normal, tender, slightly swollen, and you may even experience some slight bleeding. The day you get them done you may be in awe of your fresh set of brows.

If you’re used to filling them in and are used to bolder brows, you may be in love. If not, do not panic. The permanent makeup has been applied to compensate for fading of 20-40%, so if they look darker than you normally wear your brows, stay calm, the color will fade over the next week.

DAY 2

You will try really hard not to sneeze, because of the multiple tiny papercut-like wounds on your face. Your brows will be reddish, still quite tender, and maybe even a little bit thicker in texture than the day before. You may really notice the difference in your brows and feel like people are looking at them, but chances are you’re more self-conscious about it rather than people noticing them being darker than normal.

DAY 3-4

By Day 3, you shouldn’t notice a huge difference from the previous two days, if anything, the pain and tenderness will start to subside, and the brows will get slightly dark or thicker, but nothing major. At this point, you’ll probably be loving the convenience of getting up and having instant brows without the hassle of having to create them yourself. You’ll likely find yourself daydreaming about beach days with completely waterproof brows, but don’t act on this at LEAST until day 10!

DAY 5

Day 5 is when things start to change. This can be the turning point in the healing process, where your brows are getting itchy and it is advised to NOT scratch them, as the wound may still be open. A thick layer of scabbing may form, and the fine hair-strokes that were created may be hidden. You may feel like you want to start panicking. RESIST the urge to blow up your artist’s phone firing off questions and accusations alike. You have a wound on your face, therefore your body is trying to repair itself, hence the scabbing. It’s all apart of the healing process, and if you’ve had any other kind of tattoos in the past, it heals very similarly.

Just know that this is totally normal and even if it doesn’t look pretty, you shouldn’t worry, they’re going to be #browgoals again in no time.

DAY 5-7

This is the scary time period when the serious scabbing will start, and begin to peel away from the skin. If you’re anything like me - you will be extremely tempted to pick or peel the scabs. Don’t give in to this temptation, it could affect your healing very negatively. If you pick it, you could lose pigment that was deposited into the skin and could end up with a holy, patchy eyebrow. By gently rinsing the area regularly the scabs will slowly start to fall off - when they’re ready. This phase is definitely the hardest of the process. Who knew your entire eyebrow would shed and go through this transformation? It’s so important for clients to know and truly understand the whole process, and really be assured by their artist that what they experience is perfectly normal, and necessary for their eyebrows to heal properly.
